Far Horizons is Tom's third anthology. Now, well into his seventies, Tom is able to look back on life into the far distance of passed years, but also, as a Christian, Tom looks forward into the far future - eternity - with great certainty and anticipation.
Again, as with previous volumes, there are references to events long since gone, which still have a social or moral message today. But the assurance of a future in heaven is also expressed ion many of the pieces in this publication.
However, lest this sounds too heavy, Tom adds, "While some things in life are serious, very serious, let me assure the reader that I have not lost my sense of the ridiculous."
There is Tom's usual sprinkling of humour throughout.
From the Introduction
While compiling this collection I have been reminded of the progress of the years, not least by the physical deterioration of the body. Some of this has provided material for a light-hearted approach expressed in verse - for me, humour is a good way to cope with some things.
At the same time though, such events and conditions are reminders that I am much closer to the end of this life than the beginning. The early days can seem so far away and, at the same time, as a Christian, I can look forward to far distant times of eternity with great anticipation. The title "Far Horizons" well expresses these feelings.
